At the assembly workshop of Wanxiang (Wuhan) Intelligent Manufacturing Co in Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ), advanced automated assembly lines operate at high speed.
Here, semi-finished automotive brake products undergo a series of precision manufacturing processes, including insertion, pre-assembly, and rigorous testing, before they are dispatched for delivery.
"Our company has experienced double-digit growth in monthly revenue since the beginning of this year, with orders already booked for the rest of the year," said Cheng Jiabing, manager of the technical center at Wanxiang. In the first half of this year alone, the company achieved an output value of 280 million yuan ($41 million), a 30 percent increase year-on-year.
The high technical barriers and significant investment required for testing have led most domestic companies to depend on third-party institutions, resulting in extended product development cycles that often struggle to meet the rapid iteration demands of vehicle manufacturers.
At the Wanxiang R&D Center, a brake unit undergoing validation is placed in a sealed test chamber, where researchers adjust test conditions based on real-time data displayed on screens.
"For temperature testing, we can simulate extreme environments ranging from minus 40 C to over 120 C," Cheng said. The company has introduced advanced brake inertia testing platforms and partnered with institutions like Wuhan University of Technology to establish a technology R&D center.
"With our own R&D center, we've managed to reduce the product development period by more than half. We can also collaborate with OEMs for innovation and quickly respond to their needs," Cheng noted.
The company has overcome a variety of industry challenges, including brake drag resistance. Under emergency braking conditions at 100 km/h, the braking distance of automobiles can be reduced by over 2 to 3 meters, achieving industry-leading standards.
Wanxiang is recognized as a national high-tech enterprise, engaged in the research, development, manufacturing, and sale of automotive brakes and related components. Its core products, such as the EPB electronic parking brake and lightweight calipers, are utilized in passenger vehicles from renowned manufacturers such as Dongfeng Motor, BYD, and Changan.
Wanxiang had reached a production capacity of 1.84 million units by the end of 2025, equipping approximately 460,000 passenger cars, SUVs, and MPVs with their brakes.
