Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) kicked off its 10th annual fitness games on May 30, marking a decade of promoting health and wellness in the community.

The opening day featured a variety of events, including tennis, soccer, and badminton, drawing over 400 sports enthusiasts from across the district.

Among the eager participants was 45-year-old Zhou Xia, competing in the badminton tournament for the fourth time. She noted that participating in sports boosts personal resilience and helps relieve work and life stress.

Several venues, including the badminton and table tennis halls and the Wuhan Sports Center swimming pool, were opened to the public for free on the same day, bringing together 2,000 residents to enjoy exercising.

"This year's event has been extended and offers a wider range of activities," said a representative from the zone's culture and tourism bureau. The games will run for four months, featuring 22 major categories and over 100 sub-events, including soccer, basketball, and martial arts, catering to both youth and adults. Some events will continue until the end of the year.

The program emphasizes community involvement and diversity, introducing new activities such as ice and snow experiences, water sports, and cycling, which are expected to attract over 5,000 participants.

WEDZ boasts an average sports facility area of 5.29 square meters per person, with a 100 percent coverage rate for community exercise sites and fitness equipment. The zone has developed 149 kilometers of fitness trails and three public sports venues, establishing a comprehensive sports facility network that covers subdistricts and communities.
