Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) is making significant progress in boosting foreign trade by focusing on key industries, including automotive and auto parts, intelligent manufacturing, and new energy.
By the end of 2025, the zone had nurtured over 400 foreign trade entities, with more than 100 specializing in automotive and auto parts exports.
Major enterprises, including China Dongfeng Motor Industry Import & Export Co and XPeng Corporate, achieved a foreign trade value exceeding 20 billion yuan ($2.94 billion) in 2025.
The XPeng import and export initiative, operational since June 2025, has expanded its sales and service network to over 60 countries and regions.
Dongfeng has concentrated on overseas marketing of complete vehicles and global supply chain services, exporting brands such as Voyah, M-Hero, and Aeolus, as well as commercial vehicles, to more than 100 countries and regions, including Northern Europe, Southeast Asia, and South America.
This sustained vitality in foreign trade has been supported by institutional innovation and the development of port routes. In early 2025, the Hannan port area of Wuhan Port, a national first-class port, was approved for temporary external opening, enabling international vessels to access the Yangtze River directly for vehicle and parts exports.
The comprehensive bonded zone exports all categories of passenger vehicles, with high-end products such as Voyah and M-Hero increasing their market share. The export market has also expanded to regions including Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and South America.
WEDZ exported 200,000 fully assembled vehicles in 2025, a 70 percent year-on-year increase. Approximately 85,000 vehicles had been exported in the first quarter of 2026, with a target of 270,000 vehicles for this year.
The cross-border e-commerce industrial park is scheduled to begin operations in June and will serve as an international sourcing center for automotive parts, as well as a one-stop service platform for automotive exports.
