Wujin Farm in Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) will open to the public in the second half of this year, offering visitors the opportunity to try activities such as crab catching and fishing, while also marveling at the "giant rice" fields, which stand taller than the average adult.
The farm is being developed in three phases, with Phase 1 focusing on ecological farming, including the introduction and cultivation of juvenile crabs, shrimp, and fish, as well as the planting of a new "giant rice" variety. The crayfish are scheduled to reach the market in May.
The "giant rice" variety is expected to mature by September, with an estimated yield of 400 kilograms per mu (0.07 hectares) and an average revenue of approximately 9,000 yuan ($1,320) per mu. With 200 mu of "giant rice", the farm is pioneering a "rice-crab symbiosis" farming model.
The ecological farming area also includes aquaculture zones for crabs, mandarin fish, and crayfish, covering a total area of approximately 1,184 mu. The hairy crabs are expected to be market-ready by October.
The second and third phases will begin construction later this year, featuring attractions such as sightseeing, fruit and vegetable picking, fishing, and visitor amenities such as a reception center and dining facilities.
