Construction of Aptiv's new plant and R&D center in Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) is well underway, with operations slated to begin in the third quarter of this year.

Aptiv, a global leader in automotive technology, is at the forefront of innovations in vehicle intelligence, electrification, and connectivity. The company has continued to expand its investments in the region since establishing its first electrical systems production base in WEDZ in 2007. This new plant and R&D center marks its fourth major investment in Wuhan.

The facility will specialize in the research and production of high-voltage wiring harnesses for electric vehicle power batteries and drive systems, along with essential components such as high-voltage charging plugs and cables.

"WEDZ is a crucial automotive industry hub in China, home to a concentration of vehicle manufacturers," noted a representative from Aptiv's Electrical Distribution Systems division. The project aims to serve local vehicle manufacturers in Wuhan while creating synergies with Aptiv's other sites across China.

The facility is expected to generate approximately 3,000 jobs, contributing to the expansion and strengthening of the automotive industry chain in the zone.

Qi Song, vice-president of Aptiv Electrical Distribution Systems and chairman for the China region, expressed strong confidence in the promising potential of the Chinese automotive market. He reaffirmed the company's commitment to increasing investments in China and enhancing local R&D and new product initiatives.
