Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) has been working to strengthen urban facilities in its Hannan area, including hospitals, schools, transportation networks, business complexes, and cultural and sports amenities, transforming the industrial hub into a livable community.

A key highlight of this transformation is the Tianyuan Heyuan Plaza, Hannan's first high-end commercial complex, which will feature a luxury hotel, office buildings, dining venues, and a cinema, and is scheduled to open before the 2027 Spring Festival.

The area is also enhancing recreational spaces, with the Landao Pastoral Complex offering a blend of artistic lodgings, agricultural experiences, rural leisure activities, cultural creativity, educational programs, and a farmer's market.

Sports facilities are expanding, with the fitness center recently opening a basketball gymnasium that can accommodate up to 200 people. The center includes facilities for table tennis, badminton, and swimming.

Educational infrastructure is also receiving significant upgrades, with five schools, encompassing both secondary and primary institutions, having added 6,792 new student slots. Hannan's first undergraduate institution, Wuhan Business University Ma Yinghe Campus, is also slated to open in September.

Of the 14 stops on Wuhan's Metro Line 16, 13 are in Hannan, with Zuo'an Avenue, a major thoroughfare, offering seamless connectivity between Hannan and Wuhan's central areas.

Hannan Airport, Wuhan's first general aviation airport, was upgraded to an A1-class facility in 2023 and now hosts over 10 airlines, operating short-haul passenger routes to cities such as Shiyan and Jingzhou. It recorded 3,634 flight hours and 11,268 flights in 2025.

WEDZ also plans to channel more resources into the new energy vehicle industry, public services, cultural tourism, and transportation over the next five years, fostering a modern, livable, and business-friendly environment.
