Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) has achieved significant milestones in the development of intelligent connected vehicles, including establishing the country's first vehicle-city network platform.

It has collaborated with Baidu to develop a 5G Remote Driving Center, making Apollo Go autonomous vehicles a common sight on Wuhan's streets.

As of December 2025, WEDZ had opened over 3,829 kilometers of roads for intelligent connected vehicle testing. Licenses have been issued to 5,463 vehicles from 24 companies, including Dongfeng and Baidu, with over 1,000 autonomous vehicles undergoing regular testing.

The applications have reached over 10 million users, with cumulative mileage nearing 100 million km.

In September 2024, WEDZ released a commercialization plan for autonomous driving equipment, expanding pilot scenarios from passenger vehicles to a broader range of autonomous driving applications.

Companies such as Neolix are pioneering unmanned delivery services, accelerating adoption in postal services, express delivery, and fresh food distribution.

A WEDZ enterprise has taken the lead in vehicle-road-cloud integration and data verification, attracting over 20 major companies and exploring a practical, scalable pilot development model tailored to Wuhan.

The zone will continue to expand autonomous driving applications, establish a cross-regional test data mutual recognition mechanism, and promote autonomous driving services in other regions.
