Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) will receive a significant intellectual boost with the relocation of Wuhan University of Technology's (WUT) School of Automotive Engineering to its Junshan Campus.

The move is designed to foster synergy between education, technology, talent, and industry, driving innovation in WEDZ's automotive sector.

The School of Automotive Engineering offers four undergraduate programs, including vehicle engineering, energy and power engineering, and automotive service engineering. It is expected to accommodate over 4,000 students by 2029, expanding its capacity and influence.

The Junshan Campus is a collaborative initiative between WUT and WEDZ, designed to align with the industrial layout of Hubei province and address WEDZ talent shortages in key areas such as new energy and intelligent connected vehicles, new materials, smart construction, high-end equipment, and healthcare.

The campus aims to establish a cross-disciplinary and international model park, a talent cultivation reform demonstration park, and a technology transfer demonstration center.

The first phase of the campus opened in September 2024, with the National College for Excellent Engineers becoming the first to move in. Preparations for the second and third phases are advancing, with plans to develop an AI and new energy vehicle education park and a medical school.
