Construction of the Wuhan Junshan Tongji Medical and Engineering Industrial Park began on Nov 28 in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ), a significant milestone in the zone's healthcare advancements.
WEDZ has invested a total of 9.74 billion yuan ($1.38 billion) in healthcare over the past five years, achieving notable progress, including the establishment of a "15-minute medical service circle".
A total of 116 family doctor teams integrating both general and specialized care have been established, serving as vital health gatekeepers for local communities. The zone has also seen a substantial increase in healthcare facilities, with the number of medical institutions rising from 177 to 235, and hospital beds expanding from 2,913 to 5,443.
The number of practicing and assistant physicians has grown to 2,647, raising the physician-to-population ratio to 3.83 per thousand. Family doctor contract services now reach over 126,000 residents.
Grassroots healthcare has also been strengthened through new constructions and renovations at several centers, including Xiangkou Street Health Center and Tunkou Community Health Service Center.
In addition, 1,565 expert work units conducted 60 free clinics at grassroots institutions, benefiting 11,828 residents.
