On Oct 10, the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) hosted a significant event dedicated to the digital transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the automotive industry.

The gathering attracted hundreds of representatives from government agencies, industry organizations, and key enterprises across Hubei province.

WEDZ, a major hub in China's automotive industry, is at the forefront of integrating intelligent manufacturing equipment, core industrial software, and industrial internet solutions within vehicle and component enterprises, thereby driving innovation and upgrading throughout the sector.

WEDZ has made substantial progress, establishing eight model smart factories, 30 intelligent transformation demonstration projects, and 98 city-level digital production lines.

The zone has supported 32 enterprises in adopting cloud-based and data-driven intelligence solutions, and 54 companies have completed digital transformation pilot evaluations, receiving nearly 10 million yuan ($1.40 million) in subsidies.

WEDZ has developed two national-level 5G factories, three national-level intelligent manufacturing demonstration factories, and five provincial-level industrial internet platforms, totaling 19 advanced smart factories at the provincial level.

Sixteen industrial software companies signed strategic cooperation agreements with automotive SMEs.

The event also featured specialized sessions focused on the digital transformation of SMEs and supply-demand matchmaking for industrial software in the manufacturing sector.

A representative from WEDZ emphasized that the next steps will involve further advancing the intelligent upgrading of the automotive industry, accelerating the creation of a self-reliant "automotive+" industrial ecosystem, and establishing specialized industrial parks dedicated to artificial intelligence.
