Geely Holding Group has inked a cooperation agreement to launch a new model project in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ).
This move will see Geely expanding its investment in the area to produce several new models, including the Geely Galaxy, thereby enhancing the supply chain of the new energy vehicle (NEV) industry.
The Geely Galaxy will be the first passenger vehicle under the Geely brand to be manufactured in Hubei province. This development will strengthen the "Hubei-made" NEV lineup, reinforce Hubei's position in the 1 trillion-yuan ($140 billion) automotive industrial cluster, and boost industry competitiveness.
WEDZ is a central hub for Hubei's automotive industrial cluster, having made significant advancements in the development of new energy and intelligent connected vehicles. The zone is committed to transforming and upgrading the NEV industry.
This project represents Geely's sixth investment in WEDZ over the past eight years. The company has established several key automotive enterprises and major projects in the zone, such as ECARX, Siengine Technology, and Mintimes Group.
Li Shufu, chairman of Geely Holding Group, said that the agreement will serve as a catalyst to accelerate the introduction of new models, deepen cooperation across the supply chain, and further expand the product lineup in Hubei.
Li added that Geely also aims to broaden its collaboration in areas such as methanol-hydrogen ships, smart mobility, and automotive racing.
