The 2025 Wuhan Soccer Super League is set to kick off in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) on Aug 16.
A news conference for the league on Aug 4 featured the unveiling of the league trophy and showcased the teams' kits.
This year's league will feature participants aged from 16 to 55. Detailed eligibility criteria have been established to ensure the matches are both competitive and entertaining, while also promoting community involvement and social engagement.
For the first time, the league will adopt a dual-track system, consisting of urban and university divisions. All matches will be conducted in an "11-a-side" format, with 24 teams vying for victory.
The university division will see participation from eight Wuhan-based universities, including Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University, and Wuhan University of Technology. These matches will be played in a home-and-away round-robin format, beginning at the end of September.
Upon the conclusion of the urban and university division matches, a Super Cup event will take place in November, where the champions from each division will compete for the most prestigious title in Wuhan soccer.
A food fair will also be held in conjunction with the opening ceremony, featuring culinary delights such as crayfish and beer, as well as interactive experience markets and themed zones dedicated to vehicles, electronics, and digital appliances.
To further engage the community, authorities will distribute consumption vouchers, encouraging participation and support for local businesses.
"The WEDZ team has assembled over 60 players and completed three rounds of training," said Wang Wenhua, the team's chief advisor. The team’s players range from 19 to over 50 years old and include students and employees from various enterprises and institutions.
