The Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ), a key hub for the automotive industry in Hubei province, is making significant strides in the new energy vehicle (NEV) sector.

In the first half of 2025, WEDZ launched 10 new NEV models, achieving a 58.5 percent year-over-year increase in production.

WEDZ has been supporting leading firms, such as Dongfeng Motor and Lotus Cars, in driving industrial transformation. On April 9, Voyah Auto celebrated the rollout of its 200,000th vehicle, making it the first high-end NEV brand to reach this milestone. Voyah's sales reached 56,128 units in the first half of 2025, representing an 85 percent year-on-year increase, with the Voyah Dream leading the NEV MPV segment.

With the expansion of production capacity, NEVs now account for 48 percent of total vehicle output, up 7.5 percentage points from last year.

WEDZ is also enhancing its supply chain resilience, emphasizing the importance of automotive parts alongside whole vehicles. Initiatives include a collaboration between Dongfeng Motor and Huawei to develop the new Tianyuan architecture, as well as the establishment of a provincial key laboratory for embodied intelligence technology.

To bolster its international market reach, WEDZ has established direct shipping routes to Japan and South Korea, reducing logistics costs and transit times for "Made in WEDZ" vehicles and components.
