CALB Group signed an agreement with Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) on June 25 to initiate the fourth phase of its Power Battery and Energy Storage System Wuhan Base.

This expansion represents a significant advancement in boosting the capacity of CALB's industrial base in Wuhan, propelling the zone's automotive industry towards innovative new energy solutions.

CALB is a global frontrunner in new energy technology, ranking fourth globally and third in China for power battery installations in 2024. The company also experienced impressive year-on-year growth of over 300 percent in total energy storage battery shipments during the same period.

The CALB Wuhan Base is being developed in four phases. Phases one, two, and three have already been completed and are operational, offering an annual production capacity of 40 gigawatt-hour for power and energy storage batteries.

Phase four aims to add six production lines with an annual capacity of approximately 400,000 power battery PACKs, with production slated to commence in the first half of 2026.

As the core hub for Hubei province’s automotive industrial cluster, WEDZ has made significant breakthroughs in new energy and intelligent connected vehicles. The zone is of equal importance in both automotive components and complete vehicles, fostering a more resilient automotive industry supply chain.

WEDZ continues to refine its industrial layout and enhance its supply chain, creating a "2-hour supply chain circle" within a 50-kilometer radius. This initiative promotes a highly concentrated area where upstream and downstream enterprises can coordinate closely, enhancing efficiency and collaboration.
