In a significant stride towards technological advancement and increased cost efficiency, Intelligent Power Co, a subsidiary of Dongfeng Motor Corporation, has unveiled its cutting-edge production center. This state-of-the-art facility, teeming with transport robots, exemplifies the company's dedication to innovation and sustainability within the competitive electric vehicle market.
The production line, which converts copper wires into the essential stator and rotor components of electric motors, now operates with exceptional precision and speed. "Previously, we depended on imported equipment that was both costly and time-consuming, taking 120 seconds to complete a product. With our new equipment, costs have been halved, and production time has been reduced to just 90 seconds," said Li Yang, head of the stator process group.
Li further highlighted, "We have adopted advanced circular laser welding technology, which offers high precision and low spatter, significantly enhancing welding quality. Additionally, we are utilizing artificial intelligence and 3D vision technology, allowing the laser to continuously 'learn' and improve based on its production experience, thereby reducing the error rate."
The superior performance of the company's products has attracted a growing number of orders. Since implementing equipment upgrades last year, Intelligent Power has boosted its production efficiency by 10 percent and reduced overall costs by nearly 4 percent. In the first quarter of this year, the company sold 73,000 electric drive products, a 20-percent year-on-year increase.
In 2024, Dongfeng Motor invested 3.11 billion yuan ($425.67 million) in advanced intelligent and automated equipment, significantly enhancing production efficiency. That same year, the company sold 860,000 new energy vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 64.4 percent.
