At the 2025 Wuhan Sports Industry Development Conference on March 20, it was announced that the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) will host a series of prestigious sports events this year. These include the FEI Jumping World Cup China League – Wuhan Leg, car racing events, and the 12th Wuhan Games.
The 12th Wuhan Games, a major sports event held every four years, is scheduled for October in WEDZ. Xie Changjun, deputy director of the WEDZ administrative committee, highlighted the zone's robust infrastructure, which is redefining sports event dimensions.
Xie said that the zone boasts Central China's largest sports center complex, scenic riverside tracks, dual golf courses, and venues for a wide range of sports, from equestrian dressage to extreme sports like ice climbing. He emphasized that the 12th Wuhan Games will energize the city with 75 competitive events and community activities, drawing participants from across the metropolis.
WEDZ will also host several car racing events at the Wuhan International Circuit in Junshan New City. The circuit spans 1,312 mu (approximately 87.5 hectares) and features a 4.29-kilometer track suitable for high-level automotive events, commercial activities, and international forums.
The F4 Chinese Championship, CEC China Endurance Championship, Lotus Cup, and Wuhan Auto Culture Festival will all take place at the circuit. A racing-related research center is planned to be established in the zone.
WEDZ will also host the FEI Jumping World Cup China League – Wuhan Leg, which will be held from May 30 to June 2 at the Wuhan Business University Equestrian Sports Park.
Ma Rufei, vice-dean of the International Equestrian Academy at Wuhan Business University, said the event will integrate competition with local culture through art performances, equestrian-themed art exhibitions, and fashion shows.
The Equestrian Sports Park, covering 139,000 square meters, includes a main arena, stable services, an audience activity zone, a logistics service area, and park roads, all equipped with professional facilities and comprehensive functions.
