The Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ), the first stop of the Yangtze River in Wuhan, boasts a strategic location with 72 kilometers of the river's left bank, including 28 kilometers of deep-water shoreline suitable for port activities, accounting for 32.9 percent of Wuhan's total suitable port shoreline.
According to the action plan for the high-quality development of Wuhan Port, the WEDZ port area will serve as a key pillar of Wuhan Port. It will enhance port hub capabilities, build container port infrastructure, and establish a logistics hub for roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) vehicles along the Yangtze River.
A representative from the WEDZ's Comprehensive Bonded Zone and Port Logistics Park noted that by streamlining major automotive export channels, the port area will become more open and versatile, creating favorable conditions for the global distribution of vehicles manufactured in WEDZ, known as China's Auto Valley.
Statistics reveal that last year, WEDZ exported complete vehicles worth over 10 billion yuan ($1.43 billion), a year-on-year increase of 194.61 percent. This year, the zone is expected to export 100,000 vehicles, a 43-percent increase, with a value of 17 billion yuan, up 47 percent.
The representative further noted that the port area currently hosts a customs supervision site established by Wuhan Customs, offering comprehensive customs services. It is the only foreign trade container port area in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River in Wuhan and the second foreign trade container port area in the city.
This strategic development aligns with Wuhan's broader vision of becoming an international logistics hub, enhancing its competitiveness and opening new avenues for global trade and economic growth.
