Comprehensive Bonded Zone and Port Logistics Park

Updated: 2024-03-06

The Comprehensive Bonded Zone and Port Logistics Park of the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone is divided into two regions, as its name suggests.

The Comprehensive Bonded Zone was previously known as the Hubei Wuhan Export Processing Zone, which was approved to be set up by the State Council in April 2000 and was among China's first batch of 15 such zones.

It has a planned area of 1.14 square kilometers and is involved mainly in four industries – processing trade, cross-border e-commerce, sci-tech incubation and logistics. Over the past decade, the zone has recorded a surge in foreign trade, with the compound annual growth rate reaching 550 percent. In 2021, its cross-border e-commerce orders exceeded 7 million, accounting for 70 percent of Wuhan's total.

The Port Logistics Park of WEDZ was established in 2015 and boasts 62 kilometers of deep water coastline, including 28 kilometers suitable for building ports. The park currently has three open ports – Shamao, Dengnan, and Shuihong.

There are 129 berths in the park for containers, automobiles and other purposes, with 35 currently in operation.

There are four major areas in the Port Logistics Park – Shuihong, Dengnan, Tongjin, and Shamao. The Shuihong area is Central China's largest grain, oil and energy distribution center; Dengnan area is the biggest automobile roll-on/roll-off shipping hub; Tongjin area is a bulk commodity trading and distribution center in Southwest Wuhan; and Shamao area is a container hub port in Southwest Wuhan.
