On Jan 8, it was reported that the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) achieved a total output value of over 360 billion yuan ($50.15 billion) in industries above a designated size in 2023.

This figure accounts for nearly one-fourth of Wuhan's total and ranks it first in the city. The zone now has an expected growth rate of around 6.6 percent in the added value of industries above a designated size, which leads amongst the three major development zones in Wuhan.

WEDZ has been vigorously promoting new industrialization and is now focusing on building a modern industrial system centered on new energy and intelligent connected vehicles. This new system will be supported by the new energy, new materials, electronics, and electrical appliances industries.

The electronics and electrical appliances industry, for example, has a long industrial chain, and a wide consumer market, making it an important part of the manufacturing industry. Leading home appliance companies such as Midea, Gree, and Haier have been continuously deepening their presence in the zone.
