The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently announced a list of 300 5G factories across the country. The home appliances factory of Midea Group Wuhan HVAC Equipment Co, a subsidiary of Midea Group, has made the cut, marking the first national-level 5G factory located inside the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ).
Previously, it was named the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's annual demonstration factory for intelligent manufacturing.
The Midea Wuhan HVAC factory is the second factory established by Midea Group based on its increased investment in the WEDZ. It was established at the end of 2020 and focuses on the production and sales of both Midea and COLMO central air conditioners for households, with an annual output value exceeding 5 billion yuan ($697 million).
The factory has more than 300 5G access points in its workshops and industrial park, and has built five major application scenarios based on edge computing platforms: 5G+ intelligent online detection, 5G+ precise quality traceability, 5G+ warehousing and logistics, 5G+ data operation management, and 5G+ production management.
The factory is equipped with thousands of sensors that monitor the production status of all the workshops. Through these sensors, real-time data from various checkpoints on the production line is updated to the monitoring center, subverting the traditional offline inspection methods.
According to statistics, under the 5G+ precise quality traceability system, the market maintenance rate of the Wuhan Midea HVAC factory has decreased by 33 percent and batch accidents have reduced by 71 percent.
