The groundbreaking ceremony for the Wuhan grain reserve warehouse construction project was held in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) on Oct 24.
The warehouse involves an investment of 653 million yuan ($90.96 million), and is estimated to store 220,000 metric tons of crops after being completed, further improving Wuhan's grain safety and supply capacity.
On the same day, the Wuhan municipal development and reform commission signed a cooperation contract with Hubei Province Grain and Oils Group Co on the construction and operation of the warehouse.

Food security is crucial to national economy, people's livelihoods, and national security. Tang Chao, director of WEDZ's administrative committee, stated that the zone will further strengthen coordination, optimize resource allocation, ensure the availability of land and talent, and enhance city functions and services to develop the new warehouse into a demonstration industrial park in grain and oil reserves, processing and logistics, and a new landmark for Hubei province.
