The Ministry of Commerce recently selected 89 typical cases for the opening up of the service sector to be promoted nationwide. The intelligent connected vehicle (ICV) commercialization case of the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) was one of seven cases in Wuhan to be selected.
As a leader of the Wuhan-Xiangyang-Shiyan-Suizhou national automotive industrial cluster, WEDZ has proactively met the nation's strategic demand for ICVs by completing ICV road infrastructure, advancing ICV demonstration operations, participating in the formulation of relevant standards, and making technological innovations.
The zone is the only region in Central China to have built 669.6 kilometers of road for ICV open testing. A total of 106 km of intelligent roads have also been put in place, and a sensing network consisting of more than 1,800 cameras, millimeter-wavelength radars, laser radars, climate and environment monitors has taken shape in the zone.
There are a dozen types of driverless taxis and buses currently being tested or operated in the zone. The Dongfeng Sharing-Bus received Wuhan's first commercial self-driving bus license in June, and several days ago, WEDZ opened the first autonomous driving tourist route in the city.
