On Sept 5, the Intelligent Connected Vehicle (ICV) Innovation and Application Development Forum was held in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ). Chinese tech heavyweight Baidu Inc obtained the 1,000th autonomous driving test license issued by the National ICV (Wuhan) Test and Demonstration Zone.
The Central China headquarters of the national new-generation autonomous driving AI open innovation platform was established in the zone.

"One of the biggest changes in the field of intelligent vehicles in the past year is the successful implementation of autonomous driving in complex urban road scenarios in China," said Li Zhenyu, vice president of Baidu.
Autonomous driving is one of the most important applications of AI. In November 2017, the Ministry of Science and Technology released the development plan for new-generation AI, which authorized Baidu to build the national new generation of artificial intelligence open innovation platform for autonomous driving.
The new regional headquarters to be jointly created by Baidu and WEDZ is the platform's second regional headquarters, and will carry out Baidu's research and testing in autonomous driving.
Over the past four years, Wuhan's ICV test roads have been expanded seven times and now have a total length of 1,462.9 kilometers. More than 340 ICVs conduct routine testing and operations, having taken 330,000 orders and served over 420,000 passengers, among the most in the country.
