SGS-CSTC Standards Technical Services Co, the world's leading testing, inspection and certification company which is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, has gained momentum for its development in Wuhan, capital of Central China's Hubei province, as it plans to turn its Wuhan branch into a testing and inspection center, local media reported.

Wang Wei, general manager of SGS Wuhan branch, said that as one of the first batch of foreign-funded inspection and testing certification enterprises to settle in the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone – the national testing and inspection high-tech service industry cluster, SGS is very optimistic about the development of the inspection and testing service industry in Wuhan.

In the next phase, SGS is expected to build its Wuhan branch into an inspection and testing center to further contribute to the development of the upstream and downstream industrial chains, Wang said.

It has been more than 20 years since SGS entered the Chinese market. The Wuhan branch of SGS has established 15 departments and eight specialized laboratories. The business covers testing, inspection and certification in industry, agriculture, food, automobile and other fields.

Liu Mingjie, an acoustic test engineer working for SGS at the Wuhan branch, said that it sometimes takes seven to eight hours to test a product. "When testing the quality of a product, you not only have to meet the international industrial standards, but also try every means possible to reduce costs and increase efficiency for our clients," Liu said.

Statistics show that testing services help clients evade quality risks and improve research and development, which can reduce costs by hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars.
