The newly-established Wuhan Muyuan pig breeding farm located in Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) has adopted new-generation 5G technologies, enabling one breeder to take care of 2,400 to 3,000 pigs, and has become Wuhan's largest digital breeding farm capable of producing 100,000 pigs every year.

With an investment of 150 million yuan ($20.75 million), the breeding farm will apply big data, artificial intelligence and industrial internet throughout the entirety of the pig breeding process to create a modernized, recyclable and pollution-free 5G+ smart breeding application scenario.

Patrol robots are used in the farm to test and record the body temperature of pigs, as well as the temperature and moisture of their living environment. The real-time data will be shown on the screen in the farm's central control room.

According to Luo Chunyang, manager of the breeding farm, the patrol robot can work around the clock and determine whether pigs are ill based on analysis of their sounds and body temperatures.

Traditional pig breeding models usually lead to a smelly environment for the pigs. The intelligent environment adjustment system is capable of air filtration, temperature control and independent air supply, making it possible for pigs to live amid fresh air, and preventing the spread of viruses and diseases.
