The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and three other departments of the central government recently officially identified 11 automobile product manufacturers as demonstration units of the extended producer responsibility.
Of these, four companies – Dongfeng Motor Co, VOYAH Automobile Technology Co, Dongfeng Hongtai Holding Group Co and Wuhan Kingfa Sci &Tech Co – are based in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone, or WEDZ, which is located in Wuhan, capital of Central China's Hubei province.
Extended producer responsibility is fulfilled when manufacturers follow eco-friendly principles in not only production procedures, but also in product design, distribution, sales and recycling.
That means that when it comes to auto manufacturing, producers are supposed to dissemble and recycle scrapped motorcycles and power batteries to achieve their comprehensive utilization.
As the new energy vehicles or NEV market penetration rate has continued to climb in recent years, the recycling and utilization of retired batteries has become an urgent issue.
Dongfeng Hongtai Holding Group Co, for one, has developed its battery recycling and utilization business layout since 2019 – setting up a complete recycling system involving testing, dissembling, tracing and utilization of unused power cells.
