Xie Hongxing, Party secretary of Hubei University, and Liu Jianping, president of the university, visited the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) on Oct 18. According to a symposium held that same day, the two sides will launch extensive cooperation and exchanges, promote industry-university-research coordination, and contribute to Wuhan's goal of becoming a domestically influential sci-tech innovation center.
In recent years, WEDZ has been centered on Junshan New City, and talent and technology continues to flow into the zone through its collaborations with Hubei's colleges, including Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Wuhan University of Technology.
Hubei University is a key provincial comprehensive university, and its three disciplines – materials science, chemistry and engineering – have been listed in the top 1 percent on ESI world's ranking.
Liu Ziqing, secretary of the zone's working committee, highlighted the university's profound history and its huge contribution to regional social development.
He said that after 30 years of progress, WEDZ has been transformed from a wasteland to a thriving economic hub. The zone is now in a transitional period, and Hubei University is expected to give full play to its advantages.
Xie introduced the university's achievements in the development of disciplines and schools and spoke highly of WEDZ's performances. Xie expressed hope that the two sides will strengthen collaboration in talent cultivation, technology commercialization and more.
