Wuhan Troowin Power System Technology Co, based in the Wuhan Economic &Technological Development Zone (WEDZ), has got the green light to build a hydrogen fuel cell stack research center, the first of its kind in the region.
Troowin is a company involved in the R&D, design and production of fuel cell stacks, systems and core components. The announcement was issued in a circular by the Hubei Provincial Development and Reform Commission.
Founded in 2011 by overseas returnee Li Xiao, the company is one of Wuhan's leading hydrogen energy enterprises and one of a few domestic firms to possess core fuel cell technologies, multiple technological trajectories and related products for different applications scenarios.
It is understood to have become a forerunner internationally in cell stack R&D, systematic integration and controls. Among the 190 domestic and international patent applications submitted by the firm, 127 have been approved.
The automobile is widely seen as a key application scenario for hydrogen fuel cells.
"The reason why Troowin chose the WEDZ to start its business is that the zone boasts a solid automobile manufacturing industry, a business-friendly environment and widespread applications scenarios," said Chen Tong, public relations manager of the company.
Plans are for the zone to take advantage of the opportunities brought about by China's carbon peak and neutrality goals, and to collect all kinds of innovative resources to make itself a demonstration zone for the operation of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.
