In recent years, WEDZ has made strong efforts in city and countryside renewal, with the living environment of a group of villages and communities having been improved significantly.
For example, what now characterizes Xunyang village in Dongjin sub-district are arrays of fruit trees and tidy streets. The village was in fact built for 276 rural households who used to live in Shiyan city. They were relocated to the village in 2010 to support the nation's South-to-North Water Diversion Project.
WEDZ has invested over 20 million yuan ($2.9 million) to build the village into a "demonstration beautiful village", and has improved its residential planning and housing façades, roads, and polluted water processing. In addition, cultural halls and other multipurpose public facilities have been established.
To better develop its eco-friendly agriculture and rural tourism, the village has also built orchards and plantations.
