The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently released the list of the fourth group of national specialized and new "little giant" firms, and 22 enterprises from the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) made the list.

The new little giant companies are involved in automobile spare component manufacturing, optoelectronics, smart equipment, hydrogen energy and environmental protection.

There are a total of 306 Hubei-based enterprises having won the national specialized and new little giant title, among which 158 are from Wuhan.

The national little giant companies are selected from national specialized and new firms and are usually in the core field of the industrial foundation, or at the essential link of the entire industrial chain. Products developed by little giant companies enjoy relatively large market shares in China and are capable of innovating continuously and achieving prominent results in research, design, marketing and management.

So far, WEDZ has cultivated 26 such national little giant companies, accounting for 12.5 percent of Wuhan's total and ranking second in the city.

Statistics show that all the specialized and new enterprises in WEDZ have cumulatively received over 44 million yuan ($6.45 million) in subsidies and rewards. The zone plans to strengthen its corporate services in terms of policies, talent and financing, and strives to foster 35 national specialized and new little giant companies. By then, the number of provincial specialized and new small and medium-sized enterprises in the zone is also expected to exceed 100.
