The National Intelligent Connected Vehicle (Wuhan) Pilot Testing Zone, located in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ), issued four autonomous driving trial operation licenses to Xiaomi Auto, allowing four of its cars to conduct trial operations on the 106-kilometer intelligent road.

Xiaomi announced its intention to make cars officially in March 2021. Eight months later, Xiaomi Auto set up its business in the zone. The company plans to arrange a nationwide road testing activity, sending 140 testing cars to all parts of China.

WEDZ received approval to commercialize autonomous driving operations in September 2019, when Dongfeng Motor Co, Shenzhen Haylion Technologies Co, and DeepBlue Zhikong Technology (Shanghai) Co were chosen among the first group of enterprises to obtain the autonomous driving commercial licenses.

So far, the National Intelligent Connected Vehicle (Wuhan) Pilot Testing Zone has issued 117 intelligent connected vehicle road testing licenses and demonstration application licenses to 17 companies.
