Robotaxis developed by Baidu's autonomous driving arm Apollo Run recently qualified for commercial operation in Wuhan. The robotaxi has rendered its services in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ).

There are currently 20 robotaxis having been deployed in the zone since May, with five of them being long-range autonomous driving demonstration vehicles that can operate within an area of 13 square kilometers. More than 10 recommended pickup points have been set up for residents, the robotaxis operate from 9 am to 5 pm every day.

The robotaxis can be called using Baidu's designated application. There are no safe staff members inside the taxi, which can operate at a maximum speed of 40 kilometers per hour. In addition, the robotaxi can adjust speed according to the road situation and itinerary.

Through monitoring redundancy, parallel driving and other measures, the safety of passengers is guaranteed.

So far, the zone has established 106 kilometers of test road for intelligent road network vehicle demonstrations and applications, and set up more than 1,800 cameras and other types of intelligent roadside equipment at 96 intelligent intersections.
