Twenty new energy buses began operating in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) recently, of which 14 are equipped with the hydrogen fuel cell system independently developed by Wuhan Troowin Power System Technology Co, which is also based in WEDZ. The system only requires 10 minutes to refill and allows cars to travel up to 500 kilometers.

"Hydrogen fuel cell buses only account for a portion of our orders," said Chen Tong, an official of Troowin. Over the first four months of this year, the firm has undertaken many demonstration application projects of sprinklers, sanitation trucks and vehicles for other purposes, and has seen rapid growth in business.

As one of the oldest domestic hydrogen fuel cell researchers and manufacturers, Troowin has long been dedicated to the R&D, design and production of fuel cell stacks, systems and core components. To date, it has submitted 183 patent applications to authorities, with 117 of them approved.

The TWLQ fuel battery system for automobiles indigenously produced by the firm is capable of operating at -30 C and has been installed in more than 10 production models of China's main auto manufacturers, including Dongfeng and Geely.

The application of hydrogen fuel cells on ships is also showing strong potential. In January 2021, the TWZFCSZ fuel cell system for ships independently designed, researched and produced by Troowin was launched.

The company is also currently accelerating the construction of its hydrogen energy R&D and manufacturing base in WEDZ. The base, once completed, is expected to produce 20,000 fuel cell stacks and 10,000 fuel cell systems annually.
