Although Dajun Mountain in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) is only 197.3 meters high, it has historically been a strategic location for military forces.
It forms a triangle with WEDZ's two other mountains – Xiaojun Mountain and Shefa Mountain – and was the site of the Battle of Chibi during the Three Kingdoms period (220-280).
According to an old story, Zhuge Liang once placed hundreds of drums halfway up the mountain to make loud noises while Zhou Yu's troops were approaching Cao Cao's military camp on water amid the thick fog, leading Cao to overestimate the scale of the enemy. As a result, Cao ordered his fellow men to shoot 10 thousand arrows at the approaching boat. The opposing troops then gathered up and used the arrows themselves.
Dajun Mountain is now thriving along with WEDZ, with the WEDZ Future Technology Innovation Research Institute to be built on the mountain's southwest side, and the Wuhan Artificial Intelligence and New Energy Vehicle Technology Research Institute to be established on its northwest side.
Meanwhile, the national intelligent connected vehicle demonstration zone, Lotus's global headquarters and the robotics innovative research institute of the Harbin Institute of Technology were launched near Dajun and Xiaojun mountains.
Dajun Mountain used to suffer from frequent quarrying activities from the 1980s to the beginning of the 21st century. But it has now been restored to its former glory and has become a must-see scenic spot since it was recognized as a part of WEDZ's core construction area to become one of Wuhan's sub-centers.
