Construction on the Wuhan Zhongchuang Shangyuan Quantum Industrial Park, which will be China's largest quantum communication base when it is complete, was launched in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) on May 20.
The park, integrating production, R&D, exhibition and sales, is located at the intersection of Dongfeng Avenue and Fengshu Fifth Avenue, and is being jointly constructed by Beijing Zhongchuangwei Quantum Communication Technology Co and Zhejiang Sanyuan Holding Group at a cost of 1 billion yuan ($149.2 million).
The industrial park, which has a planned construction area of 270,000 square meters, will be roofed in 2023 and put into use in 2024.
After operation, it will connect enterprises on the upstream and downstream reaches of the quantum technology, simultaneously lay out other factors, including AI, cloud computing, intelligent connected vehicles and information security.
As a strategic emerging industry, quantum technology is a cutting-edge frontier in the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation. Quantum communication features high confidentiality, fast speed, large capacity and long-distance information transmission. It has been applied in areas such as national defense, energy, finance and government services.
