To celebrate the upcoming World Intellectual Property Day 2022 on April 26, the people's court of the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) held an intellectual property rights (IPR) protection symposium on April 20, which was participated in by officials from the municipal court and representatives from 15 local enterprises and colleges.

The zone's court signed a cooperation memorandum on IP dispute mediation with the First-Aid Center for Intellectual Property on Automobiles and Parts in Wuhan, China during the meeting, pledging to safeguard justice by effectively addressing IP-related disputes.

The zone has been strengthening the top-down design of IP protection and has created a corresponding incentive mechanism. From 2019 to 2021, the number of authorized patents had risen from 3,455 to 8,490, with the annual growth rate sitting at 34.96 percent. Its invention patents also saw a growth rate of 49.37 percent on a yearly-basis, ranking highly in Hubei.

The technological center of Dongfeng Motor Co has expanded its strategic patent layout in new energy and intelligent driving and patent applications this year alone have exceeded 1,000.

Zhang Jiping, a staff member handling IP affairs in Hubei Dinglong Holdings Co, advocated opening IPR training classes to guide enterprises in talent cultivation.

The zone's court announced its next move to learn about the company's judicial needs and apply to establish an IPR tribunal to optimize WEDZ's business environment.
