Data show that at the end of 2021, the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) was home to 320 digital economy enterprises, among which 132 have exceeded a designated size. The total industrial output of the zone's digital economy stood at 93.46 billion yuan ($14.63 billion).

The internet industry chamber of commerce of WEDZ was established in 2019, and after three years, its number of member units has increased from 54 to 110. They are involved in industrial internet, autonomous driving, auto chips and other fields.

Wuhan Keqi Industrial Technology Co, founded in 2006, is a member of the chamber whose industrial software products revolve around the smart operation and management coordination platform. Its clients include mainstream auto makers and auto spare parts producers such as Dongfeng Honda and Dongfeng Nissan. Although affected by market fluctuations, the firm managed to achieve a growth rate of 35 to 40 percent over the first quarter of this year.

Huali Ismartways Technology Co – a WEDZ-based high-tech firm committed to the research and application of Intelligent Vehicle Infrastructure Cooperative Systems technologies, reported that its number of researchers had doubled, demonstrating the zone's increasing appeal to digital economy operators.

In an effort to develop the digital economy at a higher level, the zone will focus on five industrial clusters – 5G+ industrial internet, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, big data, and smart devices.
