Wuhan Cultural Investment Development Group Co on March 29 decided to establish a partnership with Scenery Culture Industry Co to jointly invest 150 million yuan ($23.6 million) in the construction of a digital magic world based on The Classic of Mountains and Rivers – a cultural, historical, and literary masterpiece of ancient China that includes a number of myths – in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ).

The magic world project is expected to open to the public in October this year and become a popular attraction. Its first phase has a planned area of 5,600 square meters, and consists of a themed theater and a cultural creativity pavilion. It will be centered on the Chinese fairy tale of Nu Wa – a prehistoric deity who mended a hole in the sky.

Other household myths, such as Kua Fu Chasing After the Sun, and Jing Wei Filling Up the Sea, will also be staged in the second and third phases of the project.

Dubbed China's first immersive cultural and tourist project centered on ancient Chinese legends, the magic world is estimated to attract 350,000 visits annually. "The project will adopt cutting-edge technologies to breathe new life into traditional Chinese culture, and the quiet office area of WEDZ will be turned into a magical place where people can watch the digital version of prehistoric creatures," said Mei Shuaiyuan, chairman of Scenery Culture.
