The General Aviation and Satellite Industrial Park in the Wuhan Economic & Development Zone (WEDZ) boasts two 10-billion-yuan ($1.57 billion) projects. One is the CALB's new energy vehicle (NEV) battery for an energy storage manufacturing base whose main structure for its first phase was completed on March 5. Its second phase is currently being built.

As Wuhan's first large-scale NEV cell project, it will bring more businesses partners from the upper and lower reaches of the industrial chain to the city. "Both phases one and two have five production lines, and our products have been booked out. Supply cannot keep up with demand, that is why we are trying to expand our production capacity," said Zhang Xiang, a manager of the project.

Home to an airport, the General Aviation and Satellite Industrial Park is currently seeking new business models that combine general aviation with smart manufacturing, culture, sports and logistics.

The other 10-billion-yuan project is one invested in by the China Special Aircraft Research Institute and devoted to the research and manufacture of large drones. According to the institute, two to three drones will be produced this year, and will be the largest 5-metric-ton industrial drones in China.
