A group of officials led by Liu Ziqing, secretary of the working committee of Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ), and Tang Chao, and president of the zone, launched a research visit to the Automobile and Auto Parts Industrial Park on March 8, urging the park to boost confidence in making new breakthroughs in high-quality development.

Set up in May 2015 with a planned area of 57.29 square kilometers, the park's total economic scale ranks second in the zone. There are currently 770 enterprises in the park, including 169 firms above a designated size, 21 foreign-invested companies, 77 high-tech corporations, and one firm going public.

The park posted annual revenue of 36 billion yuan ($5.65 billion) over the past year and focuses on the development of next-generation automobiles, intelligent manufacturing, new energy and new materials.

During his visit, Liu urged park officials to prioritize top-down design, plan for the park's layout in a scientific way, and find new growth drivers for the regional economy. Tang then emphasized land utilization, proposing the use of vacant lands in the park.
