Due to sporadic outbreaks of COVID-19, many on-site cultural activities have been canceled or suspended in the city of Wuhan in Central China's Hubei province.

The Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) has launched a free online reading activity for residents on its public WeChat account, giving people access to more than 100,000 e-books and over 30,000 audio books, which can all be read, collected, and downloaded for free.

Book genres include politics, classics, culture, history, education, science and technology, and followers of the public account can find their own personal favorites by searching keywords.

The free reading activity was co-launched by the zone and Hubei Chinese Online Digital Publishing Co – one of the biggest authorized domestic digital content providers. It currently possesses 4.6 million types of digital content resources, with over 600 contract copyright offices and 2,000 renowned contract writers.

"To help contain the pandemic, we’ve also made many visual and audio resources associated with disease control available to locals," said Chen Qu, vice general manager of the firm.

Follow the zone's public Wechat account "武汉经开区", click the menu "车谷服务" (meaning "the zone's service") and then the sub-menu "书香车谷" to read content for free.

The activity runs until April 30.
