The Port Logistics Park in Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) has been focusing on the "10 major campaigns for economic development" put forward by the zone's working committee and is striving to achieve port-industry-city integration.
Last year, the park recorded a throughput of 327,000 standard containers, a year-on-year increase of 78 percent. Meanwhile, the park opened two direct routes from Jingkai Port to Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port which managed to transport 750,000 cars, up 50 percent on a yearly basis.
"Recent years, the outbound cargo has mainly been industrial products, such as new materials, electronic products, electric appliances, and auto spare components," said Wang Yuanhui, vice general manager of Wuhan Jingkai Port Co, referring to previous years, when the majority of goods transported were agricultural and related products. The volume of industrial goods now accounts for over 70 percent of the total.
Last year, WEDZ invested about 100 million yuan ($15.84 million) to construct ports in three areas – Shamao, Dengnan, and Shuihongkou, launched two new routes – the Jingkai Port-Huangshi Tianhai Port, and the Jingkai Port-Yichang Port, and has introduced investment programs with cold-chain and logistics industrial parks.
