Liu Ziqing, secretary of the working committee of the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ), launched in-depth discussions with Xie Xiaolin, vice president of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), on Jan 20 on a new future technology innovation research institute project.
The agreement for the project was signed by the two parties back on Jan 5. It focuses on automobiles, new materials, new energy, digital economy, healthcare, high-end equipment, aviation and aerospace.
With the help of future technologies, the institute will establish a full-fledged professional technological platform and pilot-scale experiment base, cultivate industrial and scientific talent, and improve the zone's ability to transfer technological results.
Liu hailed HUST as one of China's top comprehensive research-oriented universities that has made crucial contributions to the regional economy. Claiming that the zone has entered a "golden" development stage, he expressed a willingness to coordinate with the university to build the new institute into a demonstration base for pilot-scale experiments and technology transfers.
Xie was reportedly very confident about the university-government cooperation.
