China's largest quantum communication industrial park, invested in by ZCWei Quantum – a heavyweight in the field – and a Wenzhou-based company, was launched on Jan 18 in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ).
Combining quantum communication R&D with manufacturing, the park will mainly focus on research into facilities used in the quantum cryptography system and offer customized products and overall solutions.
The planned investment for the project is 1 billion yuan ($157.4 million), and its construction is expected to be completed by April of next year.
The new generation of quantum communication technology features high confidentiality, high transmission speeds, and large storage capacity, and is currently applied in national defense, energy finance, and government affairs.
"The company will make the best of Wuhan's local enterprises and introduce quantum communications, AI, autonomous driving, intelligent connected vehicles, and other technologies to develop the park into the country's largest quantum communication base with complete industrial chains to form a new engine for WEDZ's digitalization and offer favorable conditions for small and medium-sized enterprises," said Xu Shanshan, a higher-up at ZCWei Quantum.
