The government of Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) signed an investment contract with Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co on Jan 5. The two sides will jointly build Honda's first new energy advanced workshop, in an effort to breathe new life into WEDZ's 1-trillion-yuan ($156.97 billion) auto business.
Officials from Hubei province, Wuhan and WEDZ, as well as senior officers from Dongfeng Motor Group Co and Honda Motor Co were present at the project signing ceremony.
The advanced workshop involves a total investment of nearly 10 billion yuan and has a planned production capacity of 256,000 cars per year. It will feature complete processing lines for the manufacture of electric cars and will adopt the latest automation technologies in its welding and final assembly sections.
By making use of renewable energy such as solar power and adopting a water recycling system, the workshop will facilitate China's goal of reaching peak carbon emissions and carbon neutrality, and minimize polluting emissions.
