Dongfeng Motor Co, an automobile research and manufacturing powerhouse based in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ), has decided to deploy its high-end new energy SUV project in the zone, with a cooperation agreement signed on Dec 21 with the zone's government.
The move has turned WHDZ into the research, production and operation center of the newly launched project.
According to Dongfeng's development scheme for the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), the company will accelerate steps to become a technology-oriented enterprise. And its investments in research over the next five years are expected to reach 100 billion yuan ($15.7 billion). New energy vehicles (NEVs) and intelligent connected vehicles are two of the company's main focuses.
The annual sales of Dongfeng's NEVs, commercial vehicles and passenger cars independently developed by the firm are all expected to exceed 1 million.
