Hong Kong Chief Executive Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor visited Wuhan, capital of Hubei province, on Nov 29. She first arrived at the Wuhan Asia General Hospital, which is based in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ), was founded by Hong Kong investors, and has become one of Wuhan's first designated hospitals since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lam visited the hospital's helicopter for emergency rescues and wards for coronavirus patients and communicated with frontline medical workers, highlighting their heroic deeds and the huge contributions they have made to the world and pointing out that more than 500,000 residents back from the Chinese mainland to Hong Kong remain uninfected due to their efforts.
She also expressed hope that Hong Kong and Hubei province will be able to launch more cooperation in bio-medicine and other scientific innovation areas.
The Hong Kong team also entered WHDZ's AI scientific and technological park in the Advanced Manufacturing Industrial Zone, where Lam was introduced to a 5G base station model and intelligent road network and invited to ride in an autonomous vehicle that can run, turn, reduce its speed, stop at the station, and back into parking spaces smoothly without any human intervention.
