A batch of auto spare parts manufactured by Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile Co were shipped overseas to ASEAN countries soon after passing through customs on Nov 23.

"That staff members from Wuhan Customs go to our company directly to test the product and issue a certificate of origin saves us both time and money and boosts our confidence in further expanding abroad," said Zhang Yi, an official of Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile Co in charge of trade management.

Based in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ, also dubbed as Auto Valley of China), Shenlong Auto this year has already registered 970 million yuan ($151.32 billion) in exports, up 92 percent year-on-year.

Efforts made by Wuhan Customs are partially responsible for this success. By fostering key automobile manufacturers into highly accredited firms for certificates of origin, implementing intelligent examination procedures, and rolling out favorable tariff policies, customs has made it more convenient for domestic auto makers to go global.

Online and onsite product examinations have been adopted by customs. Officials are required to visit specific companies for onsite product examinations when it comes to goods with higher quality and safety requirements, such as storage batteries and air bags. Flexible and remote examinations can be done for goods with lower requirements.

Hubei has exported 48,000 cars worth 4.78 billion yuan since the beginning of this year.
