Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) is implementing Hubei province's three-year action plan for technical transformation and upgrading and manufacturing renewal.
It has developed new energy and intelligent networked vehicles, and has promoted the deeper integration of automobiles with advanced manufacturing, information and communications, the Internet, big data, and artificial intelligence.
Due to these efforts, investment in technological upgrading has continuously expanded and innovation capacity has been continuously enhanced. Leading projects are being gathered at a faster pace and industrial scale is growing steadily.
In 2021, there were 129 auto industry technological transformation projects under construction in the development zone, with a planned total investment of 25.5 billion yuan. Technological transformation projects have maintained rapid growth, the proportion of technological transformation investment has increased to 58 percent, and the industrial investment structure has been continuously optimized.
In the past two years, more than 80 enterprises in the development zone have received 220 million yuan in support via provincial and municipal industrial technical transformation and intelligent transformation support funds. More than 150 enterprises have obtained 190 million yuan in district-level support funds, and the pace of intelligent transformation is leading the city.
Since the beginning of this year, WHDZ has been providing free diagnostic services for intelligent transformation, and has introduced four intelligent transformation consulting platforms. It has also provided services for 262 enterprises, which has significantly improved the quality of enterprise investment.

This year, the economic development zone has successfully held more than ten intelligent transformation demonstration and promotion meetings, creating eight demonstration enterprises for intelligent transformation, including Lear Dongfeng, Huapei Power, and Fanzhou Chuetsu. Enterprises' willingness to carry out smart transformation has increased significantly.
At Dongfeng Honda's third plant, the flexible "5+1" production line is undergoing intensive production. Every 50.1 seconds, one complete vehicle is rolled off the assembly line, and every hour, 70 complete vehicles leave the factory.
Most car companies in the industry produce just 60 vehicles per hour, but Dongfeng Honda, thanks to its intelligent production lines, has become the fastest vehicle manufacturer in the country.
In the automation workshop of Hubei Kait Automotive Electronic and Electrical System Co, a transformed automatic production line can produce 2,100 air conditioning modules per day with only two operators, greatly improving efficiency.
In 2015, the company launched the automated transformation of its original production line. While improving production efficiency, it also developed new high-end automated production lines and purchased industrial robots, high-end CNC machine tools, intelligent testing, intelligent logistics, and warehousing equipment to realize product design, manufacturing, testing, logistics and warehousing, and other life cycle intelligence.
The company has also aggressively promoted the construction of smart factories, with related investment exceeding 30 million yuan. This year's sales are expected to have increased by 20 to 30 percent over the past year, reaching more than 400 million yuan. Its technological transformation experience was shared with the whole city at the 29th Industrial Intelligent Transformation Promotion Conference in Wuhan this year.
