Athletes from the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) performed admirably at the 11th Wuhan Sports Meet, which was launched on Oct 17.
The quadrennial event has been held eight times since 1987 and has become a municipal comprehensive competition of the highest level in Wuhan.
WHDZ sent more than 800 athletes to the event this year. They participated in traditional events like martial arts, football and basketball, as well as new events such as figure skating, horse riding and ice hockey. The zone was also responsible for arranging youth male football and badminton competitions.

As of now, 600 young athletes from the zone have attended 17 competition items and won 39 gold medals and 238 adult athletes have attended 21 items and won nine gold medals.
An official from the zone's sports bureau explained that the WHDZ team has performed historically well in youth weightlifting, taekwondo and martial arts.
The sports meet ended on Oct 26. Athletes from WHDZ focused on winning gold medals in athletics, tennis and table tennis.
